Madarao Mountain Lodge is a newly renovated ski lodge that is just 300 metres walk from the slopes at Madarao Mountain Resort. This modest lodge features 11 clean and comfortable rooms that are either western-style rooms with western bedding or Japanese-style tatami rooms with futon bedding. One of the Japanese style rooms features an ensuite, all other rooms have access to shared bathroom amenities. The lodge features a restaurant and bar.
This non-smoking lodge has its own restaurant and bar that provides both Japanese and western-style modern cuisine to both in-house guests and outside customers alike. The lodge has WiFi, cable TV, Apple TV in the bar, a dart board and a recreation room for guests to kick back and relax. There is a self-serve station in the recreation room where guests can have 24-hour coffee and tea, DVD movies, a computer station, as well as a fridge, microwave and hot water for preparing light snacks. The Australian and Japanese owners provide excellent food and service, they can also use their language skills to help assist with connecting people to local services such as other restaurants, ski rental, English ski lessons, tours and transport. There is a ski room and luggage storage is available for guests who want ski before check in or after check out. The common recreation room has a couch, TV with Netflix and DVD player. Breakfast is western-style, including eggs, toast, cereal, and salad. There is an espresso coffee machine and drink vending machine that guests will have to pay for if they want juice, hot chocolate or other beverages. Dinner is available in the full cafe restaurant open from 3pm till 8pm. It specialises in sushi, sashimi and tempura. Western meals are also available. There is also a fully stocked bar and with craft beer, local sake and shochu. A laundry service is available for a fee.
From Iiyama Station, guests can catch a 20-minute bus ride to the Madarao Kogen Hotel or a taxi right through to Madarao Mountain Lodge. Madarao Kogen Hotel is just a 300 metre walk away from the lodge, guests can request a pick up from the bus stop. From the lodge, you can easily access the extensive terrain of both Madarao Mountain Resort and Tangram Ski Circus from the front door. It is an easy ski down to the lifts and one of the best places in Madarao if you want to wake up on the slopes for first tracks.
The lodge has 11 rooms. There are 4 western-style double rooms with queen sized beds. There are 3 western-style twin rooms with two single beds, one western-style triple room and one western-style family room that sleeps 4 people. There are two Japanese family rooms with tatami mats and futons, one which has an ensuite bathroom. Twins are the smallest at 9metres squared, the triples and doubles are 11, Japanese family rooms 13 and Western 14. They all have some storage and hanging space and every room has Japanese cable TV. The Japanese rooms are on tatami mats with futons and the western have single beds. Doubles are just two singles put together and can be made into twins again depending on guest demand. All rooms are non-smoking.
All rooms have access to shared western-style shower rooms. The shower rooms are separate for men and women. There are three separate shower stalls in each. There are no Japanese-style baths onsite, but two onsens are within walking distance from the lodge at Monaile and the Madarao Kogen Hotel. There is also a great onsen at Madarao, about three kilometres away. Guests can be driven to this onsen, where possible. Shampoo, conditioner, soap and towels are all provided.
